Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
yes, wait for the LORD.
Psalm 27:14

Waiting, as I'm sure most people would agree, is one of the hardest things to do. Whether something small or something large, it is never a fun task. During this season of Advent we are called to wait for the newborn King, to understand the magnitude of who was born onto this Earth so that we could be washed of all sin. And of course in this season, looking at my students, I see the waiting faces of anticipated Christmas day, full of presents and filled stockings!

Even though I am completely thankful for the little baby born in a manger, during Advent, I can't help but think more about His parents - Mary and Joseph. They have been heavy on my heart recently. How did they know to trust that everything will be alright? Well, I guess they did have an angel telling them so! But they were unwed, they had to move to an undetermined place, they were young, this was their firstborn... they would be a new family soon. Although their circumstances were different than mine, I find comfort in the knowledge that this couple waited - they waited and believed.

We are only a month into paperwork, phone calls, and emails to our adoption agencies, and yet waiting is hard. There are times I find myself thinking, "can we really do this? will we figure this all out?" And then comes the clear message: "Yes, I will provide, your children are waiting for you". Waiting for you. I am not the only one waiting, my children are too. And someday soon, we will be a new family.

  1. Isaiah tells us "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Claim that promise . . .

Second day in Manila

Family picture from yesterday at the park. Caleb has a flying butterfly. Our second day in Manila was fantastic! We got out of the city and saw a ton of the countryside, multiple areas outside of the city, and a beautiful "lake" that houses a volcano.  We've been starting our mornings with this view. Starting out on our journey today we saw some gigantic billboards. These two were selling Jollibee and the other was selling TUNA... tuna!?!? Our first trip to Jollbee! This is the Philippines favorite fast food restaurant, it is similar to our McDonald's. Their primary food though is chicken, much like KFC. Where do pineapples come from!?! Did you say a tree?? Then you, like myself and Jon, are wrong!!!! These are Pineapple Fields! Pineapples are grown from the ground! When this is ready to pick, the pineapple will be sitting straight up on top of the soil.  Road side stop to see the pineapple fields also allowed us to see t...

Siblings not by choice

Siblings.  Not by blood, not by choice, not by the perfect of circumstances. Siblings. Placed together by the hands of God. Placed together through love. May not get along through many circumstances, but love each other with a love most will never understand.

Four years.

Four years. Four years ago today, our second blessing jumped into our arms for the first time. Four years ago today, these two became brothers and best friends. Four years ago today, all our worlds changed. And yet, how can it have only been four years? Feels like he has been our son from day one. The Lord blessed us ten-fold the day we met you, my son, our Tope. My world is better with you in it.
