Birthday wish postponed

Thanks all for your birthday wishes yesterday! It was overall a pretty good day (some adoption woes...). I stayed busy with work, being Mom, and play practice; and among it all some fun highlights...

*Jon and Caleb made me our family's traditional birthday muffins
*Caleb made me the sweetest birthday drawings
*Ronald McDonald (at our school for a presentation on respect) sang a birthday song to me to the tune of "Love Shack" when he learned my name was Mrs. Schack! Kids didn't get it, but I found it quite witty and amusing.
*Got my costumes for "Les Miserables" and both fit really well! Always nice when you feel comfy in a costume. Now, trying to take a picture without smiling - that was not as much fun - I look so awkward!  :)
*All the warm fuzzies I got through phone calls, texts, and Facebook  were really awesome! It's fun to hear so many well-wishes from family and friends. I'm loved! Yey!

Unfortunately, among this all there were some low-lights...

~Remember the review of our paperwork that should have happened on May 8th. Well it didn't.
That's right - it didn't happen.
BIG bummer.
We didn't get any reasoning from the ICAB as to why it didn't happen. But we do know that sometime NEXT WEEK now it will be reviewed. So another wait to see when they let us know the end result. Frustrating. I had really hoped to have my birthday wish come to fruition and hear good news from the ICAB yesterday. Guess that wish will have to be postponed.

~Even more frustrating though was hearing from our International agency that our homestudy agency is refusing to do our Bulgaria dossier. They want us to wait until after Little C is home for a few months before deciding if we can do another adoption. Thus our two year wait to adopt from Bulgaria is now going to turn into at least a three year wait. I'm so incredibly frustrated about this. Admittedly, I cried when I read the email, praying none of my students would suddenly walk into my classroom. I just don't get it. If our primary agency has given their blessing to put in a second dossier, why won't our local agency follow suit? As it is, if you've been following our blog, you know we have not been happy with our local agency. They have added a lot of time to our wait as it is, they've been so incredibly UN-timely with everything. AHHHHH. I really wish we could switch agencies, but it isn't an option.  :(

Ok, so here is a happy note to end on!!!!

Caleb and I made "slimy" frogs for his PreK class! Caleb even told me they looked like Frogs (after Jon was telling me under his breath he thought they might look like tulips!) so I was a proud Mama. Glad I got this picture when I did! The slight angle they were in during the car ride to school this morning caused the eyes to run off of the jello! Most of the frogs ended up looking like cyclops! lol!!!! Caleb, bless his heart, thought it was great though - he giggled happily, "now they look like one eye is closed! so cool Mom!" Bless him!!!!

Hope you all have a great night!

In Christ~

  1. It is weird to see you without a smile because when I think of you I picture your pretty smile:) Sorry to hear about your delay - on both the adoption fronts - that really stinks!

Four years.

Four years. Four years ago today, our second blessing jumped into our arms for the first time. Four years ago today, these two became brothers and best friends. Four years ago today, all our worlds changed. And yet, how can it have only been four years? Feels like he has been our son from day one. The Lord blessed us ten-fold the day we met you, my son, our Tope. My world is better with you in it.

Philippines Travel - Random Tips

When I say random tips, I truly mean random tips! I kept a list of random things we learned while traveling in the Philippines. If you are planning on traveling there at any time, some of these could be very useful, some will just be some fun knowledge to have. Many of these tips you will not learn from your adoption agency or travel agency! Here it goes! BEFORE YOU GO: Pictures of documents:  If you are taking your smart phone or a tablet with you, then take pictures of emails, addresses, and phone numbers you may need. More than once I didn't have that one piece of paper  that I needed with that random phone number, BUT I had taken photos of many of my emails with people's names and numbers and hotel addresses which saved us many headaches! If you have a smart phone, hold down the power key and the toggle key at the same time, and voila!, you take a picture of the screen you are looking at. Gifts : Many people bring gifts for their hosts/drivers, orphanages caretaker

A feminine touch

How often do you think God looks down upon us and laughs at the things we think and say? I have to think, if I were God, I would be having a good chuckle at least every other hour just listening to my thoughts alone! Here was His chuckle... Mara: "I think we are destined for all boys in this house. The craziness of these boys! oy! This is my life." God: "Lol! Haven't you heard that Everyone agrees that girls are much harder than boys!?!" Mara: "For certain the only "cute" clothes I will buy will include a collar and buttons." God: "Hehehe! You do realize that girls don't just need a pair of tennis shoes for the winter and sandals for the summer, right!? They need dress shoes, sandals, tennis shoes, cute boots, real boots, shiny shoes, easter shoes, christmas shoes...." Mara: "It would be fun to have another female in this house. These boys could use more feminine presence. They are much less crazy. " God:
